Other Useful Sites(Not intended as a complete list. In general, this page does not duplicate links available on other FIE pages.)
Non-Governmental Environmental Organizations Environmental Advocates. An Albany-based organization that encourages the various branches of the New York State government to adopt and enforce environmentally-friendly policies. They have many useful publications, including snail-mail newsletters which are an excellent source of information on such matters as how your representatives are doing. E-mail: info@envadvocates.org. Friends of Fire Island National Seashore -- a citizens support group. Great South Bay Audubon Society Nature Conservancy, Long Island Chapter . National Parks and Conservation Association . "Biased and inaccurate" according to the Fire Island Association. (But we think NPCA has got it just right!) Their Marine and Coastal page is especially well done and relevant. New York League of Conservation Voters Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation. Runs the New York State Marine Mammal and Sea Turtle Rescue Program. Seatuck Environmental Association (concerned mainly with natural habitats in the Long Island area).
Other Web Sites you'll love (well, maybe not in all instances) Envirolink. A sort of search-engine for environmental matters. U.S. Environmental Protection Adminstration Fire Island Pines Beach Erosion Committee . For the replenishers' point of view (but the site now appears to be defunct). Fire Island Light (an NPS site) Fire Island Light Preservation Society Fire Island National Seashore (the U.S. park). Updated 27 Dec. 05 |
