The Waters Around Fire Island

The Fire Island National Seashore includes not only most of Fire Island, but also the adjacent waters.

Great South Bay Frozen? Enjoy walking/skating on the ice -- if it is 2 inches thick. ("Slush ice" (frozen slush), or many people, require 3 inches. Two-ton car: 8 inches; 25-ton truck: 20 inches.)
